This is a story of love and loss and finding out whether or not there’s more than one ‘Mr Right’ for you.
I wondered what it would be like to lose a person who has always been in your life and how easy it is to get back ‘out there’ after a personal tragedy. I was also interested in the relationship between a mother who’d had a perfect relationship and a daughter who was just starting to date boys and who wanted to know how she could be certain if someone was right for her.
In a lot of ways it’s a novel about uncertainty and also about having the courage to move on.
The gardening theme is there because every spring when I look out at the garden I’m enthralled by the re-emergence of growth after the bleakness of winter.
