The following interview was done for the publication of Someone Special. Veronica is very fashion-aware even though Romy isn’t. So these are my fashion thoughts!!

      FASHION SPECIAL

Veronica is a very glamorous woman and likes to wear up-to-the-minute fashions. Are you equally fashion conscious?

My basic wardrobe is more Romy than Veronica. Most days I wear jeans and a t-shirt and I like to feel comfortable when I’m wearing them, particularly sitting in front of the computer. However I do like getting dressed up for special occasions so I have a few dresses on the rails too.

Where do you buy your jeans?

Most of my jeans come from Topshop and that’s because they have so many different designs and also different lengths. I’m fairly short and so if I buy standard jeans I have to get them taken up which often ruins the shape of the leg. My favourite jeans at the moment are from the Kate Moss collection. They’re surprisingly comfortable, fit well in all the right places and come in different lengths.

What’s your favourite High Street store?

I think Zara do a really good job of mixing fashion with practical clothes. Their tops are always great and I’ve also picked up some really pretty dresses there, particularly during the summer.

Do you have a favourite designer?

Because even on my dressing-up days I keep things fairly simple I liked Donna Karan, particularly her DKNY range.  Almost all of the pieces I’ve bought are still in my wardrobe and still get taken out fairly regularly. In my City days I was a huge fan of Irish designer Louise Kennedy as she does really stylish suits but most of them are too formal for me now.

Veronica was big into shoes – are you?

Shoes are a weakness, I have to admit. But I struggle to get them to fit me because (as well as being short) I have small feet. A few years ago I was in Singapore and I thought that I’d died and gone to heaven because the standard sizes there are smaller than the UK and Ireland. I bought four pairs of shoes but I really wish I’d bought more! I buy a lot of my shoes in Spain where I have a holiday home because they also do more small sizes. Additionally, their shoes are always very soft and elegant which I like.

      Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo?

I have 2 pairs of Manolos both of which I absolutely love and which were great investments (at least that’s what I tell the man in my life). I bought them in the sales in Madrid last summer and have worn them regularly ever since. Veronica is big into Jimmy Choo and has a stunning pair of red Jimmy Choo sandals. I recently saw a pair of red ones myself and in honour of Veronica I bought them. But I haven’t actually got around to wearing them yet.

      What’s your make-up routine?

The older I get the more effort I have to make. I’ve always been scrupulous about cleansing my face before going to bed, no matter how late I get home. I do think that has helped my skin. I use a tinted moisturiser during the day (Sephora do a good one with a high SPF) with a Smashbox cheek tint. In the evenings, if I’m going out, I use ID mineral make up. I love lipstick and lip-gloss but I’m forever losing them. Right now I’m using a lip tint from Smashbox which I really like.

      Cosmetic surgery, yes or no?

I’m absolutely terrified of any sort of surgery so I don’t think I could ever willingly allow someone to do something to me that wasn’t medically necessary. The idea of Botox makes me shudder and I always think that people who’ve had collagen injected into their lips look weird. As everything heads south I do wonder if I’ll change my mind but it’s unlikely. I really don’t like the immobile, expressionless look that comes with cosmetic surgery and I think that there is nothing wrong with having some character in your face. It’s a shame that we’ve all become so obsessed with how we look rather than how we are inside.
